And Now They're Mugging Homer

I've read The Iliad & The Odyssey five times. Once reluctantly because I had to. Four times because I wanted to. It was part of my youth and education that I cherish to this day because of the way it was taught to me. Some will understand that. Most won't. But it was really no surprise considering the present day cancel culture when I opened my email and saw the link sent to me by a old schoolmate. It made me realize this is truly no longer the world I was born into.......

"A sustained effort is under way to deny children access to literature. Under the slogan #DisruptTexts, critical-theory ideologues, schoolteachers and Twitter agitators are purging and propagandizing against classic texts—everything from Homer to F. Scott Fitzgerald to Dr. Seuss.

Their ethos holds that children shouldn’t have to read stories written in anything other than the present-day vernacular—especially those “in which racism, sexism, ableism, anti-Semitism, and other forms of hate are the norm,” as young-adult novelist Padma Venkatraman writes in School Library Journal. No author is valuable enough to spare, Ms. Venkatraman instructs: “Absolving Shakespeare of responsibility by mentioning that he lived at a time when hate-ridden sentiments prevailed, risks sending a subliminal message that academic excellence outweighs hateful rhetoric.”

The subtle complexities of literature are being reduced to the crude clanking of “intersectional” power struggles. Thus Seattle English teacher Evin Shinn tweeted in 2018 that he’d “rather die” than teach “The Scarlet Letter,” unless Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel is used to “fight against misogyny and slut-shaming.”

Outsiders got a glimpse of the intensity of the #DisruptTexts campaign recently when self-described “antiracist teacher” Lorena Germán complained that many classics were written more than 70 years ago: “Think of US society before then & the values that shaped this nation afterwards. THAT is what is in those books.”

Jessica Cluess, an author of young-adult fiction, shot back: “If you think Hawthorne was on the side of the judgmental Puritans . . . then you are an absolute idiot and should not have the title of educator in your twitter bio.” An online horde descended, accused Ms. Cluess of racism and “violence,” and demanded that Penguin Random House cancel her contract. The publisher hasn’t complied, perhaps because Ms. Cluess tweeted a ritual self-denunciation: “I take full responsibility for my unprovoked anger toward Lorena Germán. . . . I am committed to learning more about Ms. Germán’s important work with #DisruptTexts. . . . I will strive to do better.”

That didn’t stop Ms. Cluess’s literary agent, Brooks Sherman, from denouncing her “racist and unacceptable” opinions and terminating their professional relationship. The demands for censorship appear to be getting results. “Be like Odysseus and embrace the long haul to liberation (and then take the Odyssey out of your curriculum because it’s trash),” tweeted Shea Martin in June. “Hahaha,” replied Heather Levine, an English teacher at Lawrence (Mass.) High School. “Very proud to say we got the Odyssey removed from the curriculum this year!”

When I contacted Ms. Levine to confirm this, she replied that she found the inquiry “invasive.” The English Department chairman of Lawrence Public Schools, Richard Gorham, didn’t respond to emails.
“It’s a tragedy that this anti-intellectual movement of canceling the classics is gaining traction among educators and the mainstream publishing industry,” says science-fiction writer Jon Del Arroz, one of the rare industry voices to defend Ms. Cluess. “Erasing the history of great works only limits the ability of children to become literate.”

He’s right. If there is harm in classic literature, it comes from not teaching it. Students excused from reading foundational texts may imagine themselves lucky to get away with YA novels instead—that’s what the #DisruptTexts people want—but compared with their better-educated peers they will suffer a poverty of language and cultural reference. Worse, they won’t even know it."

If there is something wrong with classic literature, it's because it's not being taught. Students who do not have the right to read such great works will suffer from language poverty and lack of cultural references. Τhe sad thing is that these views of proglodytes and fanatics are becoming more and more numerous. Western civilization, instead of moving forward by holding on solid foundations, is moving towards the disappearance of its very essence.

I Think We Might Be Building a Wall in the Wrong Place

I never went to summer camp. I grew up in the Old World, surrounded by the wonders of the past at hand to explore during summers. But I'm familiar with the concept. That's what threw me when I saw the article by Jeff Reynolds at PJMedia, "Summer Camp to Train Grade School Kids to Be Antifa Activists". In his words "There's so much wrong here it's hard to know where to start."

"I'm so old I can remember when disseminating communist propaganda in public schools was frowned upon. The first thing that struck me, before anything else, was the mask-clad, fist-raising elementary school kids in the illustration.
Teaching incoming 4th-8th-graders how to riot, become members of antifa, and join a communist revolution seems a bit much—even for Portland, Oregon.
Notice the star on the mask and the raised fist. Classic imagery from the USSR, China, and other violent Marxist revolutions in the 20th century. One might immediately think of the Brown Shirts, except that Nazis and antifa hate each other. Antifa formed in the 1930s to oppose the rise of the Nazi party and to try to bring a Marxist revolution to Germany. Rather, the imagery is eerily reminiscent of the Vladimir Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization, or Pioneer Youth. Lenin established this organization to replace the Boy Scouts, which he outlawed after the Bolshevik revolution....."
But According to the Budding Rose website:
Budding Roses is a volunteer-run collective of educators, students, and activists who provide free social justice summer camps and year-round workshops for Portland-area youth in 4th-8th grade.
So, what's wrong with fighting for social justice, you say?
"Budding Roses received funding from the 'Black Rose Anarchist Federation'. Notice that they use the same graphic as the summer camp"

"In any event, you can't tell me that we're not in a war for the soul of our culture. The Marxist revolutionaries are now reaching into our elementary schools to recruit ever younger comrades for the front lines.
On a side note, the DSA in Portland has announced that they will challenge Democrat legislators in next year's primary over an unwillingness to go far enough left for their tastes. Mind you, Portland Democrats tilt to the left of Trotsky, so this will shape up as a battle royale to rival the craziest stuff advocated by AOC and others." - READ MORE

If You Don't Believe Our Culture Has Gone Off The Rails, Well Just Read This:

Prestigious Library Journal Comes Out Against........ Libraries

Don’t Oppress My People With Your Public Libraries

The Tweeter feed of the prestigious Library Journal, a "global community of more than 200,000 librarians and educators," proudly directs its readers to the mental exertions of one of it's own, Ms. Sofia Leung and her screed entitled "Whiteness As Collections"
"Our library collections, because they are written mostly by straight white men, are a physical manifestation of white men ideas taking up all the space in our library stacks. Pause here and think about this."
Ms Leung, an academic librarian, is unhappy that public libraries in the US, a white-majority culture with a white-majority history, tend to have among other things lots of books by authors with pale skin, white dudes thinking great thoughts, or as we used to call it, Western Civilization. This, we’re told, is an “interesting mini-eureka moment” that our Queen of Intersectional Rumination feels compelled to share.

Ms. Leung airs her distaste for "white men ideas", as if they had been uniform across continents and throughout history, while reminiscing about attending a "white AF conference" two years earlier. I was unsure what the “AF” might refer to and searched for some literary or scholarly explanation. It then occurred to me that a "white AF conference" is, to borrow the woke vernacular, a white as fuck conference. Which is how not-at-all-racist academic librarians convey their thoughts, apparently.
"If you look at any United States library’s collection, especially those in higher education institutions, most of the collections (books, journals, archival papers, other media, etc.) are written by white dudes writing about white ideas, white things, or ideas, people, and things they stole from POC and then claimed as white property…
When most of our collections filled with this so-called "knowledge," it continues to validate only white voices and perspectives and erases the voices of people of colour."
At which point, things get a little breathless and intermittently grammatical. However, readers may wish to ponder how synthesising insights from around the world, and from cultures long gone, and preserving those insights in libraries is somehow a bad thing. Readers may also wish to ponder the implications of a librarian and self-styled educator, schooled at the University of Washington and Barnard College New York, and who is offended by the existence of “white ideas” and the “so-called : knowledge of "white dudes."

As if sensing that her thoughts aren’t sufficiently lurid and unhinged, Ms. Leung then shifts into higher gear;
"Library collections continue to promote and proliferate whiteness with their very existence and the fact that they are physically taking up space in our libraries. They are paid for using money that was usually ill-gotten and at the cost of black and brown lives via the prison industrial complex, the spoils of war, etc...."
Amid this avalanche of conspiracy theories and rote indignation, we’re told that the prevalence of books by pale-skinned authors in a majority-white country "indicates that we… don’t think people of colour are… as important as white people."  The exact line of reasoning here is somewhat unclear and obscured by the inevitable in-group incantations, including "sites of whiteness", a term deployed to describe public libraries, and which we’re to believe somehow crush the very breath out of the heroically brown.

Ms. Leung reminds me of another classless ethnic elitist we all know who once spoke in a similar vein.

Saving the Culture from Modern Vandals

* Note to Reader: You may rest assured that this post, considering the subject matter, has been double checked by your blog editrix and found free of any and all offensive terms such as "monkey", etc....

By now, it’s become a parlor game: which movies, even from the recent past, could and would not be made today? “Blazing Saddles,” for sure, and perhaps even “Pulp Fiction,” for their relentless use of the “n-word.” Should the culture be denied Phoebe Cates’s magnificent bosom, which gave hope (however fantastic) to nerds across America that someday they too might actually see such wonders in the flesh. And they have already tried to kill Scarlett.

These days, the censorship comes almost exclusively from the perpetually outraged cultural-Marxist Left. Like their Soviet, Chinese, and Cambodian forebears, they cannot abide anything that does not conform to their world-view right this minute, and therefore must constantly update their “Index of Forbidden Books, Films, Words, and Cultural Artifacts.” As revolutionaries everywhere are want to do, they are hanging their parents and desecrating the graves and monuments of their ancestors. Because their zeal knows no bounds—because, by definition, too much zeal can never be enough—they are now set loose upon the past, the better to erase it so that a brave new world might be born.

Recall, if you will, that the World State’s motto in Aldous Huxley’s future dystopia is: “COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY.” Although first published in 1932, the work is even more timely now than it was in the period between the wars, all three words having taken on vastly different, and more sinister, shades of meaning in the interim. But you can’t hatch the New Socialist Man without breaking a few eggs, so what’s the loss of a few old, dead, cultural totems when set against the inclusive paradise that is sure to come?

The assault on the past—on the Western and American past—is something more than simple cultural vandalism.  The negation of the past—even of its own past—is something the Left must accomplish in order for it successfully to school the populace of the brave new world in the brave new ways. This puts the so-called cultural conservatives in a bind. The old bluenoses must now defend elements of the culture they might well have hated, and still do hate—but refusing to protect them is to align themselves, however unwittingly or unwillingly, with their mortal enemies on the Left. It’s all the more galling when you consider that the Left hid behind “free speech” when it was in their interest to goad the larger culture toward change, but now cannot abide “hate speech,” which is, when you stop to think about it, exactly the same thing.

If they can come for Mark Twain and Joseph Conrad, they can come for anybody. As the Chief Bromden says in the opening lines of Ken Kesey’s great novel, “They’re out there.” And they’re coming for you. So what are you going to do about it?

Dems Likely to Go Full Clouseau in Event They Take Midterms

The Senate is more than likely to remain in safe hands of Republicans, the House, so much.  If the House was to fall to the Dems you can bet they will go full Inspector Clouseau and turn the works of their congressional committees into a three ring investigative circus, cheered on by their vengeful Publicity Department in the News Media. No doubt it will come, and according to Jonathan Swan of Axios, Congressional Republicans are getting ready for hell:
------------------------------------------------------
"Axios has obtained a spreadsheet that's circulated through Republican circles on and off Capitol Hill — including at least one leadership office — that meticulously previews the investigations Democrats will likely launch if they flip the House. Publicly, House Republicans are putting on a brave face about the midterms. But privately, they are scrambling to prepare for the worst."

"The spreadsheet includes requests for administration officials to be grilled by committee staff, requests for hearings to obtain sworn testimony, efforts to seize communications about controversial policies and personnel decisions, and subpoena threats. It catalogs more than 100 formal requests from House Democrats this Congress, spanning nearly every committee."

  • President Trump’s tax returns Trump family businesses — and whether they comply with the Constitution's emoluments clause, including the Chinese trademark grant to the Trump Organization
  • Trump's dealings with Russia, including the president's preparation for his meeting with Vladimir Putin
  • The payment to Stephanie Clifford — a.k.a. Stormy Daniels
  • James Comey's firing
  • Trump's firing of U.S. attorneys
  • Trump's proposed transgender ban for the military
  • Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's business dealings
  • White House staff's personal email use
  • Cabinet secretary travel, office expenses, and other misused perks
  • Discussion of classified information at Mar-a-Lago
  • Jared Kushner's ethics law compliance
  • Dismissal of members of the EPA board of scientific counselors
  • The travel ban Family separation policy
  • Hurricane response in Puerto Rico
  • Election security and hacking attempts
  • White House security clearances

"These demands would turn the Trump White House into a 24/7 legal defense operation. Thanks to their control of Congress, Republicans have blocked most of the Democrats’ investigative requests. But if the House flips, the GOP loses its power to stymie. Lawyers close to the White House tell me the Trump administration is nowhere near prepared for the investigatory onslaught that awaits them, and they consider it among the greatest threats to his presidency."

Disney Joins History Revision and Cultural Cleansing Movement

Long before the Disney movies of the same name came to be, one of the most enduring features at Disneyland and Disneyworld has been the classic “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride.  And as we all know, Progressives Regressives have their own truths, and can't seem to leave things alone.
DT - The ride has been in existence for fifty years and like those Confederate monuments never bothered anyone much until the rise of the new totalitarian left. Being the gutless corporate cowards that they are, the honchos at Disney are now revamping the ride out of fear of the castrating harpies of the #MeToo lynch mob.
Park visitors pile into boats which transverse a labyrinthine journey through the darkness of the old pirate days with automated figures engaging in sword fights, treasure hunts, singing and a bride auction in which bound women are sold off to the highest bidder.
The scene that depicts women on the auction block is being replaced when the ride closes for routine maintenance starting April 23 at Disneyland Park in Anaheim as well as the Magic Kingdom Park in Florida. Disneyland will instead install a scene that shows townspeople lined up to surrender their valuables to the pirates, according to the Disney Parks Blog.  The tall redheaded woman from the auction block will remain in the new scene, but now as a rifle-toting pirate. The Disney Parks Blog also noted changes to the “Pirates” ride at Disneyland Paris."

This begs the question:  In this day and age when we are told the authors of history have so conveniently glossed over so many things like the cruelty of slavery and the contributions, good and bad, to society by some peoples, why then change this example of how things really were and how things have changed, and teach the real truth of history?

Have we become so afraid of emotionally triggering small segments of society that we can no longer tell the true? Even the most misguided Europeans of today still have the desire to tell, warts and all, their sometime disgraceful history as it was.

Nothing Says Education Like Storytime With Drag Queens

Image: PJ Media

White Privilege, Black Lives Matter, Transgender Mania, White Genocide etc, etc, etc.....and the Progtards of America are still scratching their heads and wondering why the words "President -Elect Donald Trump" have entered the lexicon of America English.........

Brooklyn Public Library Hosts Drag Queen Story Time

Extravagant dresses, perfectly coiffured wigs, and whole lot of personality is all part of the show. No, it’s not a drag show with adults and booze at a bar, it’s Drag Queen Story Hour at the local library with curious children and their parents. They are reading all of the classics and fairy tales to the kids, giving them lessons in good, evil, and morality.

But seriously people,  are we so obsessed with sex that we need to turn a toddler story time at the public library into a drag show?

The Brooklyn Public Library took a cue from the San Francisco Public Library by initiating their own version of the “Drag Queen Story Hour” for kids. That’s where dudes dress up like chicks and read fairy tales about chicks loving dudes to "curious” toddler. Kids aren’t curious about transvestites. At least, not in the way trans advocates like to believe everyone is curious about transvestites. Kids, especially little ones, couldn’t care less whether or not what you’re wearing corresponds to gender norms.

So this has nothing to do with engaging toddlers with the practice of reading, which is what library story time is supposed to be all about. Instead, the "Drag Queen Story Hour” is yet another example of social justice advocates manipulating a family event for the purpose of political grandstanding.

Kindness, empathy, and peace are such great buzzwords, aren’t they? Words like that are so helpful when it comes to masking political intentions. “Molding kids while they’re young” doesn’t sound creepy or suspicious at all. Parents of toddlers who frequent library story hours would tend to agree. But let's face it, if their child is going to act out against anyone, it’s most likely going to be the kid who tries to take his toy away, not the drag queen looking to star in a publicity stunt.

New Years Resolutions for the Smug, Liberal Millennial Know-nothings...

The following is from Matt Walsh’s Tuesday column "Hey, smug millennial liberals — here are some New Year’s resolutions for you." He wrote this in response to the idiotic video MTV made about New Years Resolutions for white people. Every single one of these resolutions is spot on. Especially the first one.

All of the emphases in bold are mine.
—-

Resolution 1: Stop being bigots.

Before you make some blanket statement about white men, imagine what the statement would sound like if you replaced “white men” with any other demographic group. For example, the video begins by saying, “Hey white guys, here are a few things you could do better in 2017.” Now imagine a video that began, “Hey black women, here are a few things you could do better in 2017,” or, “Hey Mexicans, here are a few things you could do better in 2017,” or, “Hey transgendered Asians, here are a few things you could do better in 2017.”
You would need months of counseling after watching any of those, wouldn’t you? And why is that? Well, because you’re incredibly sensitive, but also because you would most certainly consider it the height of bigotry for anyone to spend two minutes telling black people, or Mexicans, or homosexuals all of the things they need to stop doing and stop saying and stop believing. And you’d probably be right.
Now here’s the thing: you don’t have a bigotry hall pass. You don’t get to heap scorn and hatred on white men and then walk away feeling like you’re any better than the average white supremacist. In fact, you’re probably worse. Or at least you represent something that’s worse. White (male) supremacy is not a mainstream ideology. It’s roundly rejected by almost everyone all across the political spectrum. But black supremacy, woman supremacy, gay supremacy — the belief that these groups are morally and intellectually superior to white men — is very much a part of the mainstream. They teach it in college, which is probably where you picked it up.
Your bigotry is worse than any other kind of bigotry in America precisely because it’s so popular and so accepted. Worst of all, it’s the only kind of bigotry that can often be mistaken for virtue. But bigotry is bigotry all the same. You are bigots. So, stop it.

Resolution 2: Stop spreading the myth that America is inherently racist and sexist.

America isn’t great for anyone who isn’t a white guy? Maybe you should tell that to our black president. Actually, he may very well agree with you, but that’s because he shares in your delusions and prejudices.
You may notice that many non-whites and non-men stream into this country from all across the globe every year. In fact, your ancestors did the same. The girl who delivered the “America isn’t great” line in the video is a minority herself. That means her parents or grandparents came here precisely because this country is far greater than the one they fled. Perhaps she can drive home from her expensive college in the car her parents bought her, walk into their nice, climate controlled home, and inform them that America isn’t great for her. Maybe she can convince them that she’d like to return to the poverty and tyranny in whichever country her family originates. Something tells me they will not be anxious to join her.
I would argue that the “greatness” of America has taken a severe hit because of its increasingly godless, progressive, decadent culture. But that’s the kind of culture you guys want and have fought to establish, so you have no reason to complain about it. As far as you’re concerned, America is very near perfect. You can wear your nice clothes, talk on your nice phones, go to college, say whatever you want, think whatever you want, do whatever you want, make racist videos, and bask in a culture that largely reflects and reinforces your flawed worldview. What in God’s name are you complaining about? If this isn’t great enough for you, I hate to think how you’ll react if things ever get legitimately bad in this country.

Resolution 3: Develop an iota of humility and gratitude.

We’ve mostly covered the gratitude piece. You have many reasons to be grateful, especially if you’re a racial minority or a woman, knowing that you have it better here than you’d have it virtually anywhere else on the globe. And as triggering as this idea may be, you also have many reason to be grateful to the white men you spend all day whining about.
It was mostly white men who founded this country. It was mostly white men who developed it. It was mostly white men who innovated our technology, medical advancements, etc. It was mostly white men who saved the entire globe from catastrophe several times in the 20th century alone. No, it wasn’t exclusively white men, but mostly. And you ought to recognize that, and be grateful for it.
This also speaks to humility. If you’re a progressive college-aged millennial, you have absolutely no standing to lecture anyone about anything. You haven’t done anything with your life. You haven’t accomplished anything. You haven’t sacrificed anything. You have no wisdom. You know very little, and far less than you think. Humble yourself and start listening for a change. And then maybe when you’ve worked a job, gotten married, had some kids, read some books that weren’t assigned to you by a college professor, had a few ups and downs, encountered life fully detached from the bosom of your parents and academia, then maybe your opinions will carry some weight. But, if you follow those steps, your opinions will also have changed drastically by then.

Resolution 4: Stop denying reality.

You live in a physical universe. It’s important to know a few things about that universe: First, it exists. Second, it has laws. Third, you can’t change those laws. Fourth, as my friend Ben Shapiro might say, it doesn’t care about your feelings.
An unborn human doesn’t lose its humanity just because you don’t want it to be human. A man doesn’t become a woman just because he’d prefer not to have a penis. The fundamental nature of something can’t be altered at all, by any force, but especially not by the force of your imagination. God Himself cannot make 2 plus 2 equal 5, because that is inherently irrational and therefore inherently impossible. Despite what you may have been told, you are not God. And if God can’t do it, your chances of success are considerably diminished.
People are people. Men are men. Women are women. These are the basic facts of life, the parameters of existence, and you will not be able to function as a normal, decent human being until you accept them. But again, this will take some humility. It really requires only the slightest hint of modesty to accept that you are not more powerful than God. It’s disturbing to think that so many of you do not possess even that much of it.

Resolution 5: Get rid of all of your buzzwords.

They’re all stupid and they make you sound stupid when you use them. None more so than “mansplaining.” If a man happens to be teaching you something or offering instruction, as I am doing here, he is not “mansplaining.” He’s simply explaining. He’s a man explaining things. His explanations are not made illegitimate by the fact that he is a man.Indeed, if that were the case, we’d have to throw out everything that was “mansplained” to us by Einstein, Newton, Galileo, Copernicus, Da Vinci, Aristotle, Socrates, Aquinas, and so on. In other words, if we were to scoff at and dismiss every insight or discovery given to us by some misogynistic mansplainer, we would very quickly find ourselves back in the Stone Age worshiping the Sun god and dying of diarrhea and Typhoid.
I suppose if a millennial feminist could have been there when Aristotle wrote Ethics, or when Copernicus posited heliocentricism, or when Martin Luther King Jr. delivered the “I Had a Dream” speech, she would have given a patronizing smirk and lectured about the dangers of mansplaining. I guess, then, it’s a good thing that those were more serious times populated by more serious sorts of people.

Resolution 6: Stop worshiping Beyonce.

Since you brought it up, let me state for the record that, no, not everyone loves her. I mean, I love her in the sense that I am obligated as a Christian to love all human beings. But as a singer I finder her bland and uninteresting, and the content of her songs I find illiterate, vile, and degrading. But even if she were a real musician and her songs were intelligent and substantive, I’d still warn against worshiping her or any other pop star.

Resolution 7: Stop wearing cat shirts.

This one is self-explanatory.

Here’s What Voter Fraud Looks Like in 23 States

By Justin Caruso -
Reprinted with permission of the Daily Caller News Foundation:

Republican candidate Donald Trump is making accusations that the election is “rigged” against him, even suggesting the possibility of voter fraud. Trump leveled this accusation in a tweet early Monday morning that read, “Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day. Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive!”

Many others strongly push back against claims of voter fraud. The Brennan Center for Justice says that voter fraud is “myth” and the Washington Post maintains that voter fraud isn’t a problem. As the debate rages, here are examples of voter fraud in 23 different states, as compiled by the Daily Caller News Foundation

Virginia - Just a few weeks ago, Harrisonburg, Va., claimed about 20 voter applications were submitted for dead people. A voter registration group called “HarrisonburgVOTES” is responsible for the applications, and the group is reportedly headed by Joe Fitzgerald, chairman of the Democratic Committee in Harrisonburg.

An investigation has been launched.

Colorado - An investigation in Colorado in September, 2016, revealed that dead people were voting in multiple elections. “We do believe there were several instances of potential vote fraud that occurred,” Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williamstold local news station CBS4.  An egregious example of illegal voter fraud in Colorado was that of Sara Sosa, a woman who died in 2009, yet “voted” in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

Michigan -Two Democratic officials in Michigan, Jason Bauer and Mike McGuinness, were convicted in 2012 for involvement in an election fraud scheme. The two men attempted to put a fake “Tea Party” candidate on the ballot to split the conservative vote.

California - In only three counties in California’s 2016 presidential primary, there were reportedly 194 people who voted twice. Some voters were voting once by mail, then going to polls and voting again, according to the East Bay Times. It is possible that even more mail votes were submitted fraudulently, but only 194 people actually voted in person after having a mail ballot submitted for them, leading to them being caught.

Missouri - The initial results of a Democratic primary in St. Louis this year were scrapped after absentee ballots were improperly recorded. The first election, which had shown incumbent Penny Hubbard winning the race, was re-done. In the special election that followed, Hubbard’s opponent, Bruce Franks, Jr., decisively won.

Florida - Deisy Penton de Cabrera was convicted in 2013 of possessing more than two ballots which belong to other voters. Cabrera was found with 12 absentee ballots of other people and was keeping a list of elderly Hispanic voters, many whom were deaf, blind, or had Alzheimer’s.

Kentucky - In Magoffin County, Ky., three people were convicted of felony voter fraud in 2016. Magoffin County Magistrate Gary Risner, Deputy County Clerk Larry Shepard, and Tami Jo Risner were discovered buying votes.

During the case, the court heard witnesses testify to being paid $50 to vote for a slate in 2014.

North Carolina - Pasco Parker, a Tennessee resident, pleaded guilty to felony voter fraud in North Carolina in 2015 after he voted in person in Tennessee, then sent in absentee ballots to Florida and North Carolina.  A North Carolina watchdog group called the “Voter Integrity Project”uncovered Parker’s fraud.

Arkansas - Democratic State Rep. Hudson Hallum, along with his father Ken Hallum and two campaign workers, were caught bribing absentee voters and tampering with ballots. They pleaded guilty and were sentenced in 2013.

Georgia - A Georgia man named Mohammad Shafiq fraudulently tampered with voter registrations during a 2012 election. Shafiq was convicted and sentenced in 2015.

Indiana - Former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White was convicted of felony charges in 2012 after lying about his address to keep collecting a paycheck from the Fishers Town Council.

Pennsylvania - In early 2015, Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele announced, “there’s potential voter fraud in Pennsylvania,” going on to say that around 731 people may have double voted in Pennsylvania.

Arizona - Arizona woman Carol Hannah voted in both Arizona and Colorado in 2010. Hannah was convicted of voter fraud in Colorado and lost her right to vote.

Iowa - An Iowa woman named Mayra Alejandra Lopez Morales pleaded guilty and was convicted in a voter fraud case in 2014. Morales, not a citizen of the United States, registered and voted in the 2012 election.
