WFB - The Biden administration is quietly helping American universities that host China's Confucius Institute on their campuses circumvent a ban on receiving federal funds.

The Defense Department in late March announced that it would grant waivers to allow schools to host chapters of the Confucius Institute, a Chinese Communist Party-backed program that Beijing uses to peddle influence and steal intellectual property from American universities. The department’s waiver program is a response to the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which barred American colleges and universities from receiving federal dollars if they maintain Confucius Institute chapters.

The Defense Department is subverting federal law.

"The Chinese Communist Party is subverting U.S. institutions and Joe Biden is sabotaging legislation to stop them," Rep. Jim Banks (R., Ind.), a member of the House Select Committee on China, told the Washington Free Beacon. Banks added that the Biden administration has essentially "greenlit China’s espionage and malign influence operations on college campuses."

The workaround comes amid warnings from the intelligence community that American colleges are a "soft target" for Chinese spies. China has opened at least 100 Confucius Institutes in the United States since 2008, with China pouring more than $158 million into them.

The FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that these outposts are "ultimately beholden to the Chinese government" and pose an espionage risk. Schools seeking a waiver only need to send the Pentagon a letter affirming that their Confucius Institute supports "academic freedom" and "openness."

Universities that have active partnerships with the Pentagon also must "demonstrate that it has adequate measures in place to secure information, including information generated by scientific research," according to the guidance. This includes cybersecurity firewalls and prohibitions on Confucius Institute staff gaining access to sensitive research projects.

This could prove difficult for a number of American schools that have been infiltrated by Chinese spies.

It's not uncommon for presidential candidates to scribble down some notes or talking points on sheets of paper during a debate. It is, however, highly unusual for candidates to leave behind a sprawling journal entry of the kind found on Beto O'Rourke's lectern following Wednesday night's showdown in Miami. What follows is a (lightly edited) transcript of the document, as obtained by the Washington Free Beacon:

 -  Tonight, I am a dancing bear, to be jeered at by a fickle press corps who surrendered their hearts to me in Texas, only to decide I wasn't good enough to bring home to mom and dad, that I wasn't "‘long-term" material, that they always saw our relationship as "more of a side chick situation." I'm starting to think they only shacked up with me to get back at Ted. Just look at them, sitting there all smug, talking trash behind my back to all their friends. Assholes. 

-  Miami is the opposite of "punk," but at least everyone speaks Spanish here. On a related note, I owe Jeb Bush a debt of gratitude for reminding me to stop listing my ethnicity as "Hispanic." I'm not sure I could fake another apology for abusing my privilege. They would have roasted me for doing that, and yet somehow Pocahontas over here gets a pass. Maybe she's what the media had in mind when they told me they wanted to "try girls for a change."

I miss the solitude of sunsets. Hell, I miss the blog, that feeling of discovery and the archeology of excavating words from dirt — the great American soil on which dreams are built. If it comes to that, I'll say I'm quitting because I miss my wife and kids.

Triggered by the 'M' Word

Rand Paul is warning that there will likely be assassinations in the future, thanks to political actors (and I assume he includes our dreadful media in that) has turned up the rhetoric to 15. That's what the media claimed during the "Climate of Hate" days, right? So if they believed that then, they must also believe it now. But the lovely Brooke Baldwin of CNN, who suffers from acute public mascara overdoses, will hear none of this. She won't even acknowledge that a mob of angry leftists chasing Ted Cruz and his family out of a restaurant (a mob which presumably wanted to shout some "commonsense solutions" to them)  was actually a mob at all. Not only that, she's triggered by none other than a fellow traveler, a writer from the leftist  'Daily Beast', and repeatedly denies that a mob was in fact a mob.

It's significant that the leftwing media continues encouraging violence at the same time their former presidential candidate declares the end of civic peace, at least until Democrats take back power, of course. I keep saying this but now that the leftist media has expressly endorsed the tactic of nonstop public harassment of public political figures, such as the Democrats' PR arm the Media, it is only a matter of time before these same threatening, likely-to-lead to violence tactics are visited upon them.

Donors To Anti-Trump ‘Resistance’ Group Revealed

WFB - The hidden donors to a prominent anti-Trump "resistance" organization are revealed in unredacted tax forms obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Center for Community Change Action, a Washington, D.C.-based 501 (c)(3) progressive community organizing group that does not reveal its donors, has been involved in direct action against President Donald Trump and Republicans before and after the November elections. The organization's members sit on the boards of other prominent liberal activist groups.

The Free Beacon has obtained the group's unredacted 2015 tax forms that shed light on its funders, who provide millions of dollars in assistance. The group appears to rely heavily on a few major liberal foundations, organizations, and unions.

The Center for Community Change's largest contribution was $3,000,000 from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, which was initially created by Will Kellogg, the food manufacturer and founder of Kellogg Company. The Ford Foundation, which was first created by the founders of the Ford Motor Company, added a $2,350,000 donation. The Open Society Foundation, a foundation run by liberal billionaire mega-donor George Soros, gave $1,750,000 to the Center for Community Change.

Other donors to the organization include the California Endowment, which gave $524,500; the Marquerite Casey Foundation, which gave $515,000; Fidelity Charitable Gift, which donated $505,100; and the National Immigration Law Center, which gave $316,000. The Center for Community Change Action, the "social welfare" (c)(4) arm of the group, additionally relies on a handful of donors for almost all of its funding, according to its documents that do not include the privacy redactions.  Donors to its "social welfare" arm in 2015 included Every Citizen Counts ($1,750,000 contribution), a nonprofit that was created by allies of Hillary Clinton to mobilize Latino and African-American voters; the Open Society Policy Center ($1,475,000), another Soros group; the Sixteen Thirty Fund ($610,000), a progressive advocacy group; Center for Community Change ($150,000); Services Employees International Union (SEIU) ($150,000); Atlantic Philanthropies ($75,000); and the Tides Foundation ($50,000), the largest liberal donor-advised network, among other funders.  - READ MORE
