Democrats Face a Crisis of Faith

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the tears of progressives. More tears have been shed in the past few weeks than in the previous five years combined. And with Obama's Thursday presser, the Great Dam of Sorrow has burst. Check out today's coverage on Obama's favorite network, MSNBC:
“There are no teeth to what was announced today by the White House. Zero. None. Zilch.” — Chuck Todd, NBC News
“I wonder he had the legal authority to do this” — Gov. Howard Dean, MSNBC
"I, the media, didn't create these problems!" — Tamron Hall, MSNBC
"He seems a wounded man today.” — Alex Wagner, MSNBC
“Behold! A god who bleeds!”
Democrats have realized that they re-elected the Obama of the first debate. That disastrous performance in Denver wasn't the exception, but the rule. After elevating this feckless  naive to messianic status, they face not merely a political crisis, but a crisis of faith.

2014 just got a lot more interesting.

Climate Scientist Murder Worlds Oldest Creature

But it was in the name of science you understand.....

The Mirror
A clam has been hailed as the world’s oldest creature at 507 years old after researchers sent to verify its age KILLED it.
Christened Ming, it was found by climate change experts from Bangor University in north Wales on a trip dredging the seabeds of Iceland in 2006. After the discovery, scientists counted the rings on the inside shell to work out Ming had been a wise old 405.
Unfortunately researchers who calculated Ming’s age killed it instantly by opening its shell.
But now, seven years on, new calculations show the original age was wrong, and the clam was actually 102 years OLDER. It means Ming, named after the Chinese dynasty, was born in 1499.
Ocean scientist Paul Butler from Bangor University said: “We got it wrong the first time and maybe we were a bit hasty publishing our findings back then.
“But we are absolutely certain that we’ve got the right age now.
“The nice thing about these shells is that they have distinct annual growth lines, so we can accurately date the shell material. That’s just the same as what archaeologists do when they use tree rings in dead wood to work out the dates of old buildings.”
The discovery of Ming was so eye-opening that Help The Aged offered a £40,000 grant to the team to investigate how the molusc, born when Queen Elizabeth I was on the throne, has survived over the centuries. Before Ming came along, the unofficial record for the world’s oldest animal was held by a 374-year-old Icelandic clam in a German museum.

Exacting Revenge 150 Years Later?

In response to inquires as to my absence from this page for the last five days, thank you for the concern. I now have some time to explain.

Friday night, during a diner party in honor of a dear friend, a stately and graceful spanish moss covered 200 year old oak tree gave up the ghost.  Hilarity ensued, but that is a story for another time.  The result is a large section of Diogenes' humble abode, lovingly restored over the past 85 years by the three previous owners and myself, is heavily damaged. The tree fell dead center into the room used as Diogenes' Headquarters. Fortunately, it missed most, but not all of my computer equipment.

But this tree was not just any tree.

Early in April, 1864 just before the battle of Mansfield, fought just south of where I sit, two union soldiers were sent behind the confederate lines to scout out the heavily fortified gun emplacements guarding Confederate Naval Yard, the Red River and the city of Shreveport. The Union soldiers were captured by a confederate patrol and the the next day were hung as spies, and left as a message for anyone who followed. It is said but not been proven, that three runaway slaves hiding in the woods cut them down and buried them under the tree where they were hung. The very tree that damaged my home.

Over the years, in attempts to verify the story, request to dig around the tree have been denied by all the previous owner because of the shallow roots of an oak, and the danger to the tree. But now that the tree is to be cut up and the ground is disturbed, local historians have asked once again to verify the legend. I plan to grant permission if assurances are given of a proper military burial if any remains are found.

One friend joked "maybe the soldiers just finally got their revenge". For you see the property was bought soon after the war by a former confederate Major who built the original residence that stood on this site until 1905, until it burnt.

As for me, I was devastated about the damage, that was until a friend hugged me and said "but for the grace of God  go I - you could be in the Philippines". Yes, It is good to be an American.

Half of all Medicaid recipients in Illinois found not eligible.....

"You know what we need? A massive expansion of the supremely wasteful and fraud-fraught boondoggle that is Medicaid. Oh, wait. Obamacare’s already giving us that." - Poor Richard's News
KMOV -- The early findings of an ongoing review of the Illinois Medicaid program revealed that half the people enrolled weren’t even eligible.
The state insisted it’s not that bad but Medicaid is on the federal government’s own list of programs at high risk of waste and abuse.
Now, a review of the Illinois Medicaid program confirms massive waste and fraud.
A review was ordered more than a year ago-- because of concerns about waste and abuse. So far, the state says reviewers have examined roughly 712-thousand people enrolled in Medicaid, and found that 357-thousand, or about half of them shouldn't have received benefits. After further review, the state decided that the percentage of people who didn't qualify was actually about one out of four.
"It says that we've had a system that is dysfunctional. Once people got on the rolls, there wasn't the will or the means to get them off...."
“Illinois one of the most miss-managed states in country-- lists of reasons-- findings shouldn't surprise anyone....

Just go into any local office that administers free benefits from Federal or State coffers and look at who most of  the employees are. This story should come as no surprise.
