Chicago Isn't Very Happy With Little Spike Lee

Sheldon Jackson Lee, known for sometime making what some call inflammatory movies and stirring the pot so to speak, is in the Windy City to make another Spike Lee Joint. 

But the subject of gun violence in Chicago's black neighborhoods, and working title of the film have some not so enamored with the film maker. 

NYT - Mr. Lee, who declined to be interviewed, has not publicly confirmed the title of the movie, but city officials who have met with him said he had told them that he intended to call it “Chiraq.”

The film, Mr. Lee has said, is focused on gun violence on the South Side; some reports, unconfirmed by Mr. Lee, offer the intriguing possibility that the film is a comedic reimagining of “Lysistrata,” the ancient Greek tale by Aristophanes in which women withhold sex to force the men to end the Peloponnesian War.

Gun violence is a way of life for many Chicagoans, especially in pockets of the South and West Sides. Street gangs have splintered and multiplied in recent years, complicating police efforts to tamp down crime.

During a meeting with Mr. Lee and several City Council members in April, Mr. Burns, the alderman, urged Mr. Lee to reconsider the title, he said.

“I said in that meeting, ‘A lot of people take offense to the term Chiraq,’” Mr. Burns said in an interview. “These are communities where people are doing the right thing, people trying to have a decent neighborhood. Having a movie called ‘Chiraq’ will make it much more difficult for folks like me and other aldermen to bring economic development to those neighborhoods. Who wants to live in a place that people call Chiraq?”

And like a good wealthy Hollywood types, he asked for the public tax credit to make his movie:

"An alderman from the South Side, William Burns, was so perturbed by the title that he angrily suggested that Mr. Lee, the renowned director of films like “Do the Right Thing” and “Malcolm X,” should not get the $3 million tax credit that he is seeking for filming here.

“If he wants to name the movie 'Chiraq' and film it in the city of Chicago, he should be able to get the permits for that and he should be able to do it, but we shouldn’t give him money as taxpayers to brand a part of the city as Iraq.” 

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel met last month with Lee, who has been spending time in Chicago as he prepares to film his new movie, to express his displeasure about the choice of the title — which comes from rap lyrics about violence in some of the city’s black neighborhoods. 

How Long Will Carly Fiorina's "Moment" Last?

Vintage media sources, like the Washington Post, think Carly Fiorina is just having 'a moment'.  What will they think if Ms. Fiorina’s moment lasts? Imagine their disgust if they had to start reporting that she's a policy wonk and a great communicator.  Oh Noes!

"Clinton is Fiorina’s foil and chief raison d’etre in the crowded Republican primary field. The only woman among the Republican candidates, she tells crowds that her business background makes her the more accomplished choice to become the first woman president.

And she is having a moment this week, trying to capitalize on Clinton's frequent reluctance to take questions at her campaign events and on general press grumpiness.  Clinton is avoiding questions about Iraq, her family foundation and her record at the State Department, Fiorina said Wednesday.  “The Republican Party needs a nominee who will ask these questions on a general debate stage” and answer them from reporters, Fiorina said outside the hotel."

This isn't a prediction but I wouldn't be surprised if Ms. Fiorina wound up being the fourth (and last) top tier candidate.  She's a great communicator and starting to come across a bit of a policy wonk, especially well-versed in explaining the negatives about regulations.  The other thing she has going for her is that she can rip on Hillary without coming across as mean. The fact that she's shadowing Hillary and grabbing lots of free press tells me that she's a savvy media person, too, which is important.

One thing that's become clear is that Ms. Fiorina isn't a sliver candidate like Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum or Chris Christie.  Earlier this week, Rand Paul made another foolish accusation against his presidential opponents when he accused Republicans of creating ISIS.  Statements like that immediately identify him as a fringe candidate.  The GOP won't nominate someone who is to the left of Hillary on national defense.

Rick Santorum doesn’t bring anything special to the field.  People won’t take a Johnny One-Note candidate who hasn't won an election since 2000.  He won the Iowa Caucuses in 2012, defeating Mitt Romney by a handful of votes.  To tell you how pathetic that is, Mike Huckabee defeated Mitt Romney by almost 11,000 votes and by 9 points in 2008. In 2012, Rick Santorum defeated Romney by 34 votes.

When your signature victory is by 34 votes over a candidate who didn't work the state that hard, it's a telling sign.

 And this from Hot Air:

"I’m waiting to see some fresh numbers either nationally or in the early primary states which is less than a couple of weeks old. I don't know how much Fiorina has moved the needle yet – assuming there's been motion – but she's picking up a ton of earned media everywhere she goes. And yet again, the way she's doing it isn't by starting a private, internecine grudge match such as the one between Rand Paul and Lindsey Graham. She's taking the battle to Hillary Clinton's doorstep… literally in this case."

Personally, I don't think she can win the nomination, but a classy chick none the less. And if she makes the cut for the debates, she can probably hold her own with the guys.  She might be a good choice for VP, but for now, she's extremely valuable as the only one in the GOP field that can take on at full throttle Hillary Clinton and not be accused of what anyone else would be.  

Expect some serious burning of the midnight oil at Clinton Opposition Research, and hit pieces by Clinton friendly media sources if Mrs. Fiorina’s campaign picks ups any speed in the near future.

I just love watching a lefties put on a good show. At a recent Tech conference, Sen. Lizzy Warren (the female half of the the Dynamic Duo of Fauxcahontas & Bullet Head) takes a question from the crowd and goes off all wonky like, starts shakin' and almost comes unglued at the end talking bad and ugly about those evil rich people (ya know, wealthy people like her) about to much money in politics (conveniently said now that she's firmly planted in a safe Senate seat) about people not wanting their taxes raised (see, she even takes a shot at me!) and not enough change cause people aren't mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore (I just blew this statement off cause surely she was just out of town during the last election in November). 

She also says there's not enough spending by the federal government (yeah, that's the ticket Lizzy), she railed about high college tuition and student debt (this from someone who got $350,000 to teach one class) and whether your kids will have a job and retirement (by this point I guess she's totally forgot she's a democrat and what they done to the country). 

I have come to the firm conclusion that to be a democrat these days, you have to totally deny all reality around you and pledge all faith in the sparkling unicorn gods who reside somewhere deep in the bowels of DC. 

And Yes, Senator Lizzy, some have indeed awakened.........to your kind.

The NAACP’s sole weapon is fear. The organization gets its way because many businesses and public figures live in fear of being slapped with the label “racist.” But what, if anything, frightens the NAACP? No, it’s not your conservative blog or podcast, so don’t flatter yourself.

However, there is one person who scares the bejesus out of the NAACP leadership, and he’s one of their own officials: an unstoppable, unkillable bugbear named Reverend Curtis Everette Gatewood.   NAACP leaders cower in his presence.

Gatewood dislikes Jews, Israel, immigrants, and non-Christians. He’s damned Hillary Clinton supporters to hell, applauded the Baltimore rioters, compared black moms who stop their sons from rioting to white slave masters, co-organized a protest meeting at which Obama was repeatedly called a “nigger,” and pledged the NAACP’s support to an organization that opposes the NAACP, hurls racist bile at Asian immigrants and Jews, and calls Martin Luther King an “uncle Tom.”

And yet the national NAACP can’t, or won’t, get rid of the guy.

He pledged the support of his NAACP chapter to the African People’s Socialist Party/Uhuru Movement, a black separatist organization that seeks to foment a violent revolution to create an independent black nation on U.S. soil. 

The Uhuru militants have, in the past, called for the murder of Archbishop Desmond Tutu (in retaliation for him not ordering the mass execution of white South Africans following the end of Apartheid), and the expulsion of “parasitic” Asian immigrants and business owners. On a broadcast of the Uhuru radio program, Gatewood stated that his NAACP chapter stands 100% behind Uhurus’ goals.

As the State Department released emails Hillary Clinton turned over, one email is raising new questions about her top aides’ use of Clinton’s private email server. Clinton Deputy Chief of Staff Huma Abedin sent email that mixed personal information with work and what appears to be the business of the Clinton Foundation.

Abedin had received a controversial special government arrangement to serve at the State Department, the Clinton Foundation, a Clinton-connected consulting firm, and Hillary Clinton personally.

The email, sent from a non-State Department address, also renews questions about whether or not Abedin turned over all of her work-related email to the State Department before exiting, and whether or not she signed Form OF-109, the State Department’s Separation Statement, which certified she “surrendered to responsible officials all unclassified documents, and papers relating to the official business of the Government” when she left the State Department.

Interesting Note: So called non-classified emails are now being released, but with heavy redactions.

NOAA Scientist Says Carbon Emissions Must Be ZERO

Progtards Today - During an interview with National Public Radio (NPR) NOAA scientist, Pieter Tans had this to say about our future civilization, and our carbon emissions:

Tans: "We are at the beginning of bringing about huge changes in the Earth’s climate and ecosystems. The potential is there for us to make life hard, really, for future generations."

Interviewer: "And what would it take to reverse the carbon dioxide concentration levels that you’re seeing now?"

Tans: "See, that is really at the core of why we have made so little progress. The problem with CO2 in particular is that climate – forcing of climate change by CO2 depends not so much on the rate at which we are emitting it. It depends primarily on the total amount of CO2 that we’ve emitted since pre-industrial times.  The implication is that if we want to stop this, we have to bring the emissions back down to zero."

Unfortunately for us, the NPR interviewer failed to ask Mr. Tans who exactly will be asked to hold their breath, or what modern conveniences Americans will have to do without in order to achieve his desired result of zero CO2 output.

The time has come for all mankind to objectively analyze the situation and find the correct remedy.  I suggest we all beat ourselves to death standing in a 6 ft hole of organic compost. Or for a more meaningful solution, TNT suppositories.  You go first Mr. Tans.....

“And just to have a woman speaking from a global perspective as far as representing America, I’d love to see that. So I’ll be voting Ms. Clinton,” he added.

Snoop Dogg is the latest high-profile entertainer to throw his support behind Clinton in the last few days. In similar remarks to ITK last week, R&B star Ne-Yo called Clinton “a favorite of mine.”

I'm sure Mr. Dogg is hoping for a much more timely and hospitable invitation to the White House for his support than last time.  

Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act Defeated - Jindal Issues Executive Order Enacting It

Bobby Jindal enacted an executive order that would enforce the intent behind State Rep. Mike Johnson’s (R-Bossier City) Marriage and Conscience Act - Bill  HB 707  that was defeated in the House Civil Law Committee earlier today.

Here’s the statement from Governor Jindal’s office:

“We are disappointed by the committee’s action to return the Louisiana Marriage and Conscience Act to the calendar. We will be issuing an Executive Order shortly that will accomplish the intent of HB 707 to prevent the state from discriminating against persons or entities with deeply held religious beliefs that marriage is between one man and one woman.

“This Executive Order will prohibit the state from denying or revoking a tax exemption, tax deduction, contract, cooperative agreement, loan, professional license, certification, accreditation, or employment on the basis the person acts in accordance with a religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman.”

Now before anyone says "Good for You Bobby Jindal" you must understand on thing about our esteemed Governor Booby.

Outside of writing an op-ed in The New York Times that was more for national consumption than to sway votes in Louisiana, not a whole lot. He intentionally avoided the firestorm that erupted in other states over similar issues. He did very little to advance the messaging on the bill and clearly didn’t put pressure on Speaker Chuck Kleckley, who he appointed, to move the bill. In today’s hearing, no one from his administration testified in support of the bill.  

"Since Jindal did virtually nothing to help pass Johnson’s bill, who is the target audience for this executive order? 

If you guessed social conservatives in Iowa, you're absolutely right. It coincides with a new ad Jindal is running in that state in order to jump start his soon to be presidential campaign.

All throughout Jindal’s two terms, but especially in his second term, he has been more concerned with his national image than actual results here in Louisiana. Since the passing of education reform at the beginning of his second term, Jindal has done nothing to make Louisiana politics more friendly for conservatives than he found it. 

It seems the end of Jindal’s reign as Governor finds him serving as the tax collector for the Huey Long, Edwin Edwards welfare state."

The Doomsday Monument

The Georgia Guidestones are one of America’s strangest monuments. Located on the highest hilltop in Elbert County, Georgia it consist of four massive slabs of polished granite arranged in the N-S and E-W direction around a central column and topped by a capstone. Each slab is 19 feet tall and weighs 20 tons. Written on the four slabs are ten commandments left by the monument's anonymous sponsors, who refer to themselves only as "a small group of Americans who seek the age of reason". 

The monument was erected on March 1980 and built by the Elberton Granite Finishing Company, but nobody knows exactly who commissioned it. The only clues to its origin is another stone tablet, set in the ground a short distance from the structure, that provides some notes on the history and purpose of the Guidestones.

The message engraved on the slabs consist of a set of ten guidelines or principles, written in eight different languages, one language on each face of the four large upright stones. These languages are: English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian.

Progs Today - Hip Hop mogul Jay Z has reportedly been sending thousands of dollars to bail out the SJW protesters in Baltimore and other cities who have been arrested.

Complex Magazine discovered and screen capped a series of tweets from someone named “dream hampton”  (intentional lower case), who has worked with Jay Z in the past and has been a social just organizer and documentarian. Hampton stated “When we needed money for bail for Baltimore protesters, I asked hit Jay Z up, as I had for Ferguson, wired tens of thousands in mins.”

Mr. Z has a net worth of approximately $520 Million, and has been involved with such mega corporations as Budweiser and multi national bank Barclays. He is a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets, owns a record label and a clothing company, Rocawear, which imports clothing made is southeast Asia countries. He also owns a Bombardier private jet.

Jay Z is definitely down with the struggle, and has so much in common with the ordinary, everyday protesters. No 1% activity going on here.

Ma Clinton Says She’ll Only Appoint Supremes Who Will Overturn Citizens United Decision

But in the Meantime, She'll Take the Big Money

At a meeting with financial supporters last week, Hillary Clinton revealed she will only  nominate those to the Supreme Court committed to overturning the 2010 Citizens United ruling.  Clinton’s decision to make the Citizens United ruling a litmus test for the High Court nominees is her answer to reigning in the power of billionaires and multi-millionaires who wield unprecedented power over the American political process. You know, the very people who padded her campaign chest to over flowing before her street cred started south here of late.

I've always found it a beautiful irony when the very tactics so useful to democrats get use against them, and they start their stompy-footin' and hollerin' it's unfair!

Now any American with a political pulse knows there is to much money and lobbying influence in politics. But it wasn't until 2008 that independent political contributions, before the  Citizens United decision, skyrocketed in the 2008 presidential campaign. And it was not rich Republican Billionaires that put Barack Obama in office. 

But Ma Clinton and the democrats didn't seem to have a problem with big money before the Citizen United decision. Every wonder why?

It's easy to see by the blue (D's) and red (R's) lines to the left of the graphs who was racking in big money contributions in 2008. Of the top ten contributors to dems, 5 where labor unions, organization who extort millions from members who don't always vote Dem.  No outrage from the left there. But after CU the playing field began to level, and the results in part are now a Republican congress and a potential (thanks Barack) of retaking the White House in 2016. 

In 2012, the Super Pac's of  Thomas  Steyer of San Francisco and Mayor  Michael  Blommberg of New York together gave over 84 Million dollars, and those evil Koch Bros. (liberal gasp) that live rent free in the minds of many on the left, and have driven Harry Reid to the edge of insanity, gave combined contributions of 7 Million.  But the left speaks not a word of George Soros, who personal peeled off a cool 3.3 Million from his pocket outside his  super pac and millions he fronts numerous left wing causes to influence LoFo voters.

Granted, the argument for and against CU are complicated, but the SCOTUS decision boiled down to this:

From the ruling:

"Barring independent political spending amounts to squelching free speech protected by the First Amendment.

"The First Amendment protects not just a person’s right to speak, but the act of speech itself, regardless of the  speaker."

And from the dissenting opinion:

"The First Amendment protects only individual speech, not speech by associations of individuals."

"Government may prevent corruption, and campaign spending can be corrupt when it buys influence over legislators. Therefore government may impose spending limits on corporations and unions."

Simply put:  As long as big Labor Union contributions are consider free speech, but corporate and personal money is not, freedom is infringed.

Mrs. Clinton is showing by her statements on Citizens United and her litmus test for Supreme court nominees just what another Clinton Presidency will look like. More federal control through the courts, and democrat subversion of freedom and the original intent of the constitution.

And my point is this:  (1- We do disparately need Campaign finance reform. Fair reform. That is doubtful to come soon. And (2 -Three sitting Justices are approaching 80 years old, one is 82. Three other sitting Justices are in their 60's. 

The next president may have to appoint as many as 3, and possibly more justices in their first term in office. With the constitutional issues facing American today, Mrs. Clinton, or any Democrat elected to the nations Highest office in 2016 would be disastrous for America.
