Publius Minimus to Diogenes......."I ask you my friend, don't you find it a bit ironic that with all the pressure the government is putting on big oil about their 7 cent a gallon profit, politicians never mention how much of the pump price of gas is actually the government's obscenely high tax on each and every gallon sold?"
If the Mafia charges a business a "street tax" to stay in business, it's illegal extortion. If government charges a business a "tax" to remain in business, it's legalized extortion. Neither has any skin in the game. So where's the difference? One is theft by immediate intimidation and force and the other is theft by legal decree (backed up by the ultimate threat of the application of force). There seems to be a moral equivalence here and it is a dark one.ReplyDelete
