More Lunacy From Our Favorite Socialist Midget: Free Money for Everyone!

Why We Need a Universal Basic Income
We’re heading toward the i-Everything far quicker than most people realize. Even now, we’re producing more and more with fewer and fewer people. Internet sales are on the way to replacing millions of retail workers. Diagnostic apps will be replacing hundreds of thousands of health-care workers. Self-driving cars and trucks will replace 5 million drivers.
Researchers estimate that almost half of all U.S. jobs are at risk of being automated in the next two decades.
This isn’t necessarily bad. The economy we’re heading toward could offer millions of people more free time to do what they want to do instead of what they have to do to earn a living. But to make this work, we’ll have to figure out some way to recirculate the money from the handful of people who design and own i-Everythings, to the rest of us who will want to buy i-Everythings.
One answer: A universal basic income – financed out of the profits going to such labor replacing innovations, or perhaps even a revenue stream off of the underlying intellectual property.
Some conservatives believe it’s superior or other kinds of public assistance because a universal basic income doesn’t tell people what to spend the assistance on, and doesn’t stigmatize recipients because everyone qualifies. In recent years, evidence has shown that giving people cash as a way to address poverty actually works. In study after study, people don’t stop working and they don’t drink it away.
Interest in a basic income is surging, with governments debating it from Finland to Canada to Switzerland to Namibia. The charity “Give Directly” is about to launch a basic income pilot in Kenya, providing an income for more than 10 years to some of the poorest and most vulnerable families on the planet. And then rigorously evaluate the results.

Dear Mr. Reich, please have someone sit you on their lap and read you any recent history book. You will see what giving Americans free money does. Free anything creates dependency and sloth. It's estimate 30 to 35% of welfare hand outs now are squandered on booze, gambling, soda pop, tootsie rolls, prostitution, weed and illegal firearms.  This is not Finland, who have the highest incidents of mentally depression in the civilized world and produce basically nothing important, nor is it a diseased ridden dirt poor shithole in Africa. Americans are capitalistic independent industrious people with sadly a segment of it's population who believe, because of people like you, that they are owed everything.

Basic universal income is just another revamped age-old snake oil socialist idea to take from the productive and give to the dependent, who have no inclination to be anything other then dependent.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards Asks to be Impeached

This is government by hostage taking like in the bad ol’ days of Edwin Edwards.
The only way John Bel Edwards will release the hostages is if he gets more tax increases.

Governor John Bel Edwards, who campaigned to fix the state budget problems with cuts, not by raising taxes on an already high taxed citizenry, spoke to the the citizens of Louisiana Thursday night. In his twelve plus minute speech, the Governor addressed the state's budget deficit of nearly $1 billion dollars…and he told Louisianans it's worse than he thought. (even though he had sat in the Louisiana House of Reps from 2008, and as minority leader since 2012 where he voted for deficit spending)  So now he targets Health and Higher Education for cuts.

On the day he stopped TOPS funding for state college students, Edwards spoke in dire terms:
“I will also tell you about cuts we are facing that, without your support to fix, will close down higher education institutions all across our state."
Then he he pull out all the stops and jumped with all fours squarely onto the third rail of Louisiana politics while measuring his neck for a noose by saying the cash crisis even threatens the upcoming LSU football season and more:
“…the LSU main campus in Baton Rouge will run out of money after April 30th, as will the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. There is no money left for payroll after those dates.”
Governor Edwards vetoed a bill passed by the legislature in the special session that would've cut the budgets of five state boards and save millions. Beholding to unions, he has yet to propose cuts in a bloated state employee staff, or outside consultants. (Thanks Boobie Jindal)

He tried this emotional terrorism last month when he threaten to cut a program in Louisiana that helps parents of special needs children with housing, transportation, healthcare, and other essentials. The program is a valuable tool for families truly in need of assistance when developmental disabilities can take up so much of a parent’s time and resources. And, Edwards, had threatened to cut those services if the legislature didn't raise taxes.

They Did.

After passing a 28 page bill, the state now virtually taxes everything. Besides raising sin taxes on alcohol and cigarettes, new taxes include things like your membership fees and dues to civic organizations like the American Legion, YMCA, Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, local historical societies, concert tickets and Opera and Symphony memberships. But that's still not enough for John Bel.

But ya don't have to pay taxes on your food stamp purchases!

By threatening to turn off the dialysis machines at Charity Hospital and canceling the most anticipated LSU's Football season in years, the good governor has pulled the noose a little tighter. And we aren't very picky which lamp post he'll swing from.

The Little Troll on Raising of The Minimum Wage

Who would you fire, Professor Reich?
As far as I can tell, Robert Reich has never held a job in the free market. He is an academic who occasionally works in the government. There is nothing wrong with that. His new book is “Saving Capitalism: For the Many, Not the Few.”
In a recent post online, "The Morality of a $15 Minimum," Reich tried to make the moral case for raising the minimum wage to $30,000 a year, which happen to be slightly above the median wage in America. Actually, using his logic, we should eliminate minimum wage.
After conceding that raising the minimum wage to $30,000 a year will cost people their jobs, Robert Reich wrote:
"Yet maybe some jobs are worth risking if a strong moral case can be made for a $15 minimum."
Really? Whose jobs should be lost? Who is so insignificant -- so unworthy in the eyes of this man -- so tiny that they do not deserve a job?
Because that is what he is saying.
He is a socialist -- oh, hell, a communist -- who reduces people to mere statistics, which makes it easy to say some jobs can be sacrificed for the greater "good."
And yes, liberal is progressive is socialist is communist. They believe in the state -- the government -- over God and man.

Obama’s Labor Day Diatribe Just More Economic BS

I wish I could say that I’m surprised with President Obama’s Labor Day diatribe but I’d be lying if I said that. If people haven’t noticed by now, 2 of President Obama’s dominant character traits are his love of NBA-style trash-talking and his inability to resist bragging up his pathetic economic policies. Simply put, he’s a legend in his own mind. He’s also a confirmed liar.

Part of the freshest proof that he’s a confirmed liar is when he said “The fact is the verdict is in: Middle-class economics works.” Mr. President, that isn’t a fact. That’s an opinion. Actually, it’s an opinion that’s shared only within the farthest left part of the Democratic Party. Vice President Biden doesn’t even believe that. Mr. President, if  your “middle class economics” is working, why did your Vice President say that “the U.S. economy” was “devastating for workers”? Mr. President, if your “middle-class economics” work, why are the U.S. economic policies you’ve put in place producing the most anemic ‘sustained’ economic growth since the Great Depression?

This part of President Obama’s speech is exceptionally ironic:
"Unfortunately, there are some folks in Washington and some folks who are trying to get to Washington who don’t want to face these facts … in their world, the only way to help the country grow and help the country get ahead is to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires."
"And then you just wait....you look up at the sky and prosperity will come raining down on us from whatever high rise is in your city. But that’s not how the economy works. These folks are pretty stubborn. I will give them credit. They don’t let facts or evidence get in the way."
Mr. President, why do you insist that your opponents “don’t let facts or evidence get in the way” of their economic arguments when it’s you that has ignored anemic GDP statistics and things like the Workforce Participation Rate, which is at its lowest rate in 38 years? If  your “middle-class economics” works, why are 94,000,000 people who normally would be in the workforce not looking for work?

The truth is that President Obama’s policies are failed policies. It’s time to stop this disaster. It’s time to implement pro-growth economic policies. It’s time to roll back 90% of the Obama administration’s job-killing regulations.

Obama still hasn’t admitted that you can’t be for a strong middle class and anti-job creators at the same time.

Texas Largely Responsible for the +1.2M net US Job Increase Since 2007

Despite the Obama Administrations tauting of a bunch of fly-by-night taxpayer cash grabbing solar energy company failures, much to their dismay, good jobs numbers have come because of employment created in the demon fossil fuel industry.

AIE
"The Texas Workforce Commission released state employment data today for the month of December, and job growth in the Lone Star State continues to lead, and in fact carry the nation’s improving labor market as the chart below shows."

"The Texas Workforce Commission released state employment data today for the month of December, and job growth in the Lone Star State continues to lead, and in fact carry the nation’s improving labor market as the chart above shows. Here are some highlights of the December employment report for Texas:
Texas ended the year with the state’s largest ever year-over-year payroll gain with the eye-popping addition of 457,900 new jobs between December 2013 and December 2014. That’s more than 1,700 new payroll jobs that were added every business day last year in the Lone Star State, and 220 new jobs every business hour or almost 4 new jobs added every minute!
In just the last month of December, which marked the 51st consecutive month of employment growth, Texas added 45,700 new payroll jobs, which was more than 2,000 jobs every business day, almost 260 jobs every hour, and more than 4 new jobs every minute! The strong job growth in December brought the state’s jobless rate down to 4.6%, the lowest Texas unemployment rate since May 2008.
Bottom Line: Texas clearly deserves the title of America’s “economic miracle state.” It’s the most important energy-producing state in the US, and now produces so much crude oil that the state’s daily production of more than 3 million barrels represents more than 37% of the nation’s crude oil and would rank the Lone Star State as the world’s sixth largest oil producer as a separate country. Along with the gusher of shale oil and gas in Texas has come a gusher of more than 1.44 million new jobs since the start of the Great Recession......"   Read More
Even with the gas and oil boom in the Dakotas has the the rest of the US yet to recovered all of the non-Texas job losses during the recession.   That's the Obama economy in a nutshell.

See, Everything is Great...

It was recently said we are approaching what many economists call “full employment.” That is the point at which the people who are unemployed really are “just between jobs.” There is little long term unemployment. Jobs are plentiful. There is upward pressure on wages. In short, general prosperity.

Can’t you feel it?

It is possible that the economy has slogged its way through all the central planning and manipulation in the wake of 2008 and the real economy is emerging a bit despite the central planners. I figure that’s part of the equation. But an unemployment rate of 5.6% would indicate a nearly rip roaring economy, anybody see much of that?

I do see something which somewhat resembles “not horrible” but it’s not like happy days are here. Add that Europe and Asia are slowing again (from already pretty darn slow), and that lower oil prices – though probably pushed down by the Saudis for geopolitical reasons – probably reflect this slowing world economy. Add that there seems to be no upward pressure on wages. And that housing has taken yet another dip. I can’t celebrate, and we should be celebrating an unemployment rate of 5.6%.  Of course the unemployment rate is not really 5.6%. In reality its at least 9 to 10 % if one accounts for the workers (especially older workers) who have just fallen off of the unemployment rolls after years on them. And don’t forget the vast sea of underemployed people.

As far as many of the establishment economists are concerned these 2 groups no longer really count “officially.” So hey, why even consider them? Better to do everything possible to conjure the “animal spirits.” Create the illusion of prosperity to create actual prosperity.

The permanently unemployed and the underemployed are such a buzz kill.

Once Upon a Time..........a Democrat Spoke the Truth.

But That was Long, Long Ago:

Obama Tripled the Deficit, Now Brags He Cut It in Half

Familiar is the parable of the boy who murders his parents, then seeks leniency because he is suddenly an orphan.  When it comes to budget deficits, Barack Obama is more like the boy who knocks off his parents, then brags that he drove them to the morgue.

While his public approval rating plummeted this week to a new low of 37%, here was Obama in a press conference rationalizing his refusal to even negotiate over the nation’s debt limit: “Don’t tell us that the government is going bankrupt, when the deficit has been cut in half!”

The only problem is that Obama tripled the deficit before he cut it in half. As a result, he has only accelerated the government toward bankruptcy. Consider that when he ran for the White House in 2008, the deficit was $498 billion in inflation-adjusted dollars.

On the campaign trail that summer, Obama labeled that so severe as to be “unpatriotic”:
“The problem is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years, is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first forty-two presidents – number forty-three added $4 trillion all by his lonesome – so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we’re going to have to pay back - $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic!”

So what did Obama do with that “unpatriotic” level of deficit spending? He tripled it, and gave us the single worst economic recovery in U.S. history.

Labor Force Participation Lowest Since Carter Administration

While the President and his supporters may love that the official unemployment numbers released today by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics for September; the lowest monthly report since July of 2008. But the devil is in the details and are much more ominous.

What’s bad about the 5.9 percent official unemployment rate? Further into the BLS repot, it’s noted the labor force participation rate dropped to 62.7 percent. That’s also a record of sorts, but not something to celebrate. The labor force participation rate has not been that low since February of 1978! This translates to 92.6 million Americans NOT in the workforce.

No wonder that official rate is so low. But there’s trouble evident in the factor that really counts. The alternative U-6 unemployment rate — the rate that includes the unemployment, underemployment and those who aren’t looking for work because they have given up — is double the official rate at 11.8 percent.

Not even the President’s most ardent supporters can deny that the economy, and the jobless numbers, rest on precarious footing.  The radical left-wing Center for American Progress noted “beneath the top line numbers, [the job market] still has a long way to go before it returns to historically healthy conditions.”

Bend Over and Smile America......The Next Big Bailout.

Know what? The Republicans had a chance to vote on a repeal of the “risk corridor” bailout for the giant insurance companies but House leadership, Boehner, didn’t let the repeal come up for a vote. It likely would have been killed in the Senate if the measure passed, but now we’ll never know. The potential bailout would have at least gotten some attention.

If you don’t believe that the GOP, at least a big part, is absolutely for big government this is a perfect example of how it is. Leadership sided with the big business over the taxpayers, for the thousandth time.

Boehner shows his true colors again. Really, he doesn’t even try to hide them these days.
"Conservative activists are complaining that the real motive for killing a vote was to avoid ruffling the feathers of the health insurance lobby by ending the ObamaCare insurance industry safety net.
Conservative lawmakers also fear that in the anticipated lame-duck session in December, Republicans will allow the Obama administration a de facto blank check to make payments to insurance companies that lose money on ObamaCare policies without congressional approval."
The guarantee against losses on ObamaCare enrollees encourages insurers to toss sound underwriting standards out the window......"

Chalk Up Another One For Enlightened Socialist Thinking

Oil Rich Venezuela To Import Oil

Last week, a document from Venezuela’s state-run energy company PDVSA seen by Reuters News Service showed Venezuela was considering importing crude oil for the first time. “Yes, we are in talks,” Yousfi told Reuters when asked whether Algeria was planning to export crude oil to Venezuela. He declined to provide details.

Miami Herald:
"It turns out that Venezuela’s own production of light crudes has plummeted since the late President Hugo Chávez took office in 1999, and the country desperately needs light crudes to blend with its Orinoco Basin extra heavy crude oils, which without, extra heavy crude is too dense to be transported through pipelines to Venezuelan ports and exported abroad.
Venezuela’s oil production, which accounts for 95 percent of the country’s export earnings, should be used in world classrooms as a textbook case of what happens when a populist government starts distributing a country’s wealth in cash subsidies, without investing in maintenance and innovation. Much like happened with Cuba’s once flourishing sugar industry, Venezuela’s Chávez-inspired populism has destroyed the goose that laid the golden eggs.
In 1999, when Chávez took office, PDVSA had 51,000 employees and produced 63 barrels of crude a day per employee. Fifteen years later, PDVSA had 140,000 employees, and produced 20 barrels of crude a day per employee, according to an Aug. 14 report by the France Press news agency.
Venezuela’s net oil exports have plummeted from 3.1 million barrels a day in 1997 to 1.7 million barrels a day in 2013, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates."
There was a popular riddle bandied about the Soviet Union back in communist days that went something like this: Question: if the Soviet Union conquered the Sahara, what would happen? Answer: nothing for 50 years, then a shortage of sand.

Our 6 Years of Failed Keynesian Economic Practice.

Scott Grannis recently posted a pretty devastating critique of Keynesian economic theory and the abject failure of Keynesian fiscal stimulus in the period following the Great Recession (“the most expensive such failure in the history of the world”), here’s an excerpt below and I encourage you to read the entire post (with charts) HERE.
"Despite assurances from politicians and most economists of Keynesian persuasion, not only did the biggest and most rapid increase in our federal debt burden [in the six years ending June 2014] since WW II fail to boost the economy, it coincided with the weakest recovery in history—growth of only 2.2% per year on average. This is not a problem of not spending enough, it is a failure of ideology, and arguably the most expensive such failure in the history of the world.
Here’s the failure in a nutshell: The government can’t stimulate the economy by borrowing from Peter and sending a check to Paul, because that doesn’t create any new demand—it’s like taking a bucket of water from one end of the pool and pouring it into the other end; the level of the water doesn’t change. And the government can’t stimulate the economy by spending more, because the government is notoriously inefficient (not to mention the fraud, waste, and incompetence that surround most major public initiatives); the private sector is far more likely to spend its money wisely and productively than the government is. Growth only happens when an economy produces more from a given amount of resources—when productivity rises. And productivity only rises when people work more, smarter, and more efficiently, and that takes hard work and risk. You can’t just dial up productivity, you have to work for it. We can’t “spend our way to prosperity,” as the late and great Jude Wanniski told us.
Here’s my interpretation of what really happened in a nutshell: the private sector generated $8.9 trillion of profits in the past six years, and the federal government borrowed 83% of those profits to fund a massive increase in transfer payments, income redistribution, bailouts, subsidies, and a modest increase in infrastructure spending (only 8% of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act went to transportation and infrastructure).
What happened to all the profits? Almost all of the most incredible surge in profits in modern times was squandered by our government, flushed down the Keynesian drain.
The past six years in effect have been a laboratory experiment to determine whether Keynesian economic theory is valid. The result? Keynesian economic theory is (or should be) officially dead. It doesn’t work. Government can’t boost the economy by borrowing or spending more money. Politicians will be unhappy to hear this, of course, since they would prefer that we think they can dispense growth and prosperity on demand. Those who insist in perpetrating this myth should be voted out of office."

Why Do Nearly All the Super Rich Support the Democrats?

by Nick Sorrentino

"Much has been made recently of the rich gaming the system for their own benefit. Of a new “guilded age.” Socialist economist Thomas Piketty’s new book has been getting rave reviews from all over the establishment because it makes the case that very powerful people with nearly bottomless bank accounts have gamed the system and that government induced redistribution is in order.

And indeed the rich have gamed the system for their benefit, but as Matthew Continetti points out, the game the super rich want to play for the most part is not one of free markets and open competition, but one of crony capitalism.

The super rich overwhelmingly support statism. For every David Koch writing checks there are 10 crony capitalists with pens in their hands writing checks to politicians who will pass laws which benefit the crony capitalists. Why is it that Warren Buffett, Carlos Slim, and George Soros, all broadly support statism? Why is it that they want more regulation? Could it be that more government pads their bottom line?

For instance Warren Buffett owns, through Berkshire Hathaway, GEICO, aka Government Employees Insurance Company. Almost every federal employee has GEICO. What do you think the chances are that the feds would ever in some crazy circumstance let GEICO die?

About 0 chance. Nice property to have. Mostly upside with an implicit government guarantee in the event something completely unforeseen happens. This is how the big crony game is played.
The statists control the media, the universities, the levers of bureaucratic government, the Senate, the presidency, the banks (in very large part), the Federal Reserve, many of the think tanks, much if not most of the billionaire money, the unions, the schools through teacher unions.

Yet Harry Reid goes on the floor and calls a private citizen “un-American” because that citizen funds the effort to get government out of people’s lives? What kind of insanity is that?"

Bend Over America, Here it Comes Again.....

Independent Sentinel
"President Obama drew a spotlight on the high cost of attending college this past week, a worthy cause, but unfortunately, he sees the answer in more government control over all colleges. Government caused most of the problems in the first place.
Mr. Obama is slow-walking a nationalized college education system.
Barack Obama can’t come right out and nationalize college education with a Common Core maneuver, as he is doing in the K-12 school system, so he is instead working his way up to controlling colleges using aid money.
William Pitt once said, Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."
Mr. Obama is putting forward a plan for ranking colleges that
would be tied to aid as a way to cut college costs. The government would decide school rankings, including private schools, according to tuition, student-loan debt, and graduation rates. Students will get more aid money by going to the colleges that the government decides are best.
When it doesn’t work, more exemptions, carve outs, and cronyism will seep in as it always does with massive government programs.
Higher education is about to be politicized.
Government caused the problem with their easy loan money and Mr. Obama’s answer is more government.
The high cost of college today is in large part due to student aid money. The government gives easy money to colleges and they never have to lower the costs of anything. In fact, they add unnecessary frills to entice students to their country club environment. Colleges encourage more-and-more students to attend since they will be bailed out with the student loans by the taxpayers. The government controls more than 90% of the loan money in this country, but it will eventually be 100%. With this new program that Mr. Obama wants, higher learning will be under the thumb of the government for their very existence.
Mr. Obama wants to cap payments at 10% of their income, which puts the burden on the taxpayer. It is just another redistribution of income idea.
Eventually, the government will get to decide what schools are good and why, how much they can charge, and who they should enroll."...... More

Hey Green Peoples..... Answer Me This:

What About Those 14,000 Abandoned Wind Turbines?

The US has had wind farms since 1981, but what the left and the green movement don't want to talk about regarding windmills is (as usual) the truth.

The truth is: windmills, like solar panels, break down. And like solar panels, windmills produce less energy before they break down than the energy it took to make them. That's the part liberals forget: making windmills and solar panels takes energy, energy from coal, oil, and diesel, energy that extracts and refines raw materials, energy that transports those materials to where they will be re-shaped into finished goods, energy to manufacture those goods. More energy than those finished windmills and solar panels will ever produce.

The symbol of Green renewable energy, our saviour from the non existent problem of Global Warming, abandoned wind farms are starting to litter the planet as globally governments cut the subsidies taxes that consumers pay for the privilege of having a very expensive power source that does not work every day for various reasons like it's too cold or the wind speed is too high.

The US experience with wind farms has left over 14,000 wind turbines abandoned and slowly decaying, in most instances the turbines are just left as symbols of a dying Climate Religion, nowhere have the Green Environmentalists appeared to clear up their mess or even complain about the abandoned wind farms. Thousands of abandoned wind turbines littered the landscape of wind energy's California "big three" locations--Altamont Pass, Tehachapin, and San Gorgonio--considered among the world's best wind sites.

The truth is: wind energy is just a tax scam. Ben Lieberman, a senior policy analyst focusing on energy and environmental issues for the Heritage Foundation, is not surprised.
"Therein lies a lesson for those who seek to make fortunes out of tax payer subsidies, and for those who want to live in a dream world of "clean energy", the whole renewables industry of solar, wind and biomass is just an artificial bubble incapable of surviving without subsides from governments and tax payers. The Green evangelists who push so hard for these wind farms, as usual have not thought the whole idea through."
The problem with wind farms when they are abandoned is getting the turbines removed, as usual there are no Green environmentalists to be seen. The City of Palm Springs was forced to enact an ordinance requiring their removal from San Gorgonio. But California's Kern County, encompassing the Tehachapi area, has no such law.

Could you imagine the outraged Green chorus if those turbines were abandoned oil drilling rigs.

Reported Outbreak of Journalism at CNN

A.C. 180 Profiles Obama Stimulus "High-Speed Rail"

High-speed rail is a lovely idea. The thought of being able to speedily go where one wants while watching the lovely countryside pass by is an appealing one. Maybe on trains we will get seats that accommodate us better than coach class on a plane could ever hope to. We ought to applaud the Obama Administration’s efforts to make high-speed rail a reality, right?

Well, maybe not. You see, the folks at CNN decided to be journalists, and exposed the $12 Billion high-speed rail stimulus spending as a boondoggle that it is:

Kudos to CNN for their reporting. I suppose there is no reason why we couldn’t have had this brand of reporting last year, when there was a presidential election going on. For the moment, however, I will suspend my rancor and instead encourage more such reporting from the network. It's Time to Fire John Boehner

The Left Coast Rebel

We've made no bones here about our disgust with GOP leadership, especially statist Speaker of the House, John Boehner. At every single point, even when he had the upper hand, he folded like a moth-balled 20-dollar suit.
He handed Obama everything he wanted and more in every single three-ring-circus "negotiation" we had the misfortune of witnessing. And his recent promise to exact reform or deep budgets cuts as the debt ceiling increase creeps up before the election?

They don't give a flying rat's ass or a rolling donut that their acquiescence to the every Democrat pet program (including national bankruptcy) means the nation's certain failure.
